KBT60005 Installing RBR Asset File
Using an RBR asset installer with TRS2006
Description
TRS2006 does not allow easy installation of a large number of assets. When there are only a few assets needed to be installed our routine does the following:
- Revert existing asset (if any)
- Delete existing asset (if any)
- Install new asset
- Commit new asset
This is a very slow process as each asset being added requires four executions of the TrainzUtil (TU) program. So some asset compendiums with a large number of assets require that you manually perform some steps as follows.
Procedure
You require knowledge of using Content Manager Plus (CMP), which is a utility provided by Auran as part of TRS2006.
Before running the exe file downloaded from us
- Run TRS2006
- On the main menu, select the Manage Content option, which runs CMP
- If a message box appears saying "Updating the Trainz Asset Database", then left-click on it and press the ESC key. That should make it go away.
- Select the Search option
- In the Search option select "Open for editing" as the search criteria and click "Apply Now"
- If any assets are now listed:
- Move your mouse over to the asset list
- Press Control-A to select all assets
- Press Control-M to commit the assets. This may take some time but a progress bar is displayed.
- Exit CMP completely
Running the exe file downloaded from us
When CMP is closed, run the exe file that you downloaded from us. Please be aware that the installation process will take quite a time to complete and during some parts of it no progress indication is possible due to restrictions in the Auran software. You will also need to ensure you have enough hard disc space for twice the uncompressed size of the assets as the installation procedure creates a temporary directory for TU to import the assets.
After running the exe file downloaded from us
Repeat the same operations in CMP as before, namely:
- Run TRS2006
- On the main menu, select the Manage Content option, which runs CMP
- If a message box appears saying "Updating the Trainz Asset Database", then left-click on it and press the ESC key. That should make it go away.
- Select the Search option
- In the Search option select "Open for editing" as the search criteria and click "Apply Now"
- The newly installed assets should be displayed.
- Move your mouse over to the asset list
- Press Control-A to select all assets
- Press Control-M to commit the assets. This may take some time but a progress bar is displayed.
- Exit CMP completely
Finished
The installation procedure should now be complete.
Note
RBR does not actively support TRS2006. We recommend using TRS2004. If you have problems with TRS2006 we may not be able to assist.
