It's a bit early yet, and the dust hasn't settled, but there might be some hope.
I may have misunderstood the article, but it did say that it was the entire Flight Sim team was axed,  and not the entire ACES studio.

I would be very surprised if M$ scrapped MSTS X at this late stage after the work that's been put into it, and XBox/PC games are still showing double digit revenue growth.  Flight Sim is a bit different, in that the product is already out there, and further development was only on improvements.

But you've got to feel sorry for a firm that only made $4.17 Billion clear profit last year.

Cheers
Brian

A quote on UKTS from one of the TS2 developers

Quote

Hi everyone,

I wanted to say something since I know that the IGN article was particularily focused on Flight Simulator and not Train Simulator.

ACES studio has been closed and approximately 130 positions eliminated. MS remains commited to the Flight and Train Simulator franchises, and while it is possible that the products will be continued in some form in the future, for the time being no further development is being done. In the mean time sales of FSX will still continue, and I hope everyone continues to enjoy that product and all the fantastic 3rd party add-ons for it.

I am saddened that people will not get to see our work on TS2, as it was shaping up to be a fantastic product. I just wanted to say it was nice to be able to participate in the community. I enjoy both the feedback and the excitment of the community and I hope it remains strong and looks to other alternatives.

Take care!
Steve Heijster

If it is true that Microsoft ACES Studio will not continue development of MSTS2 then it is a very sad day for train simulation in general.I have always liked the original MSTS even though it shows its age and I was looking forward for great things from MSTS2. With no other real competition out there what incentive will there be for Auran to really lift their game and produce a better product?

Oh well, it simplifies Larry's decision.  TS2009 or nothing.

Cheers
